Amusement Park Camp

Welcome!

Design a roller-coaster and become an amusement park engineer. Campers examine the physics of carnival rides and create their own game for the Midway – it's science for the carnival crowd!

Meet your instructor

Hi ASC Campers, my name is Denise Hicks! I am looking forward to zooming in on STEM with you all. I grew up in Chicago and fell in love with science and engineering after my mom took me to the Henry Crown “Journey to Space” Exhibit at The Chicago Museum of Science & Industry. I was so taken by this experience that I became a STEM Educator and scientist at the Arizona Science Center with a huge love of our NASA Space Exploration Programs.

Meet your instructor

My name is Jenna Bolen and this is my 3rd summer at Camp Innovation! I am a 7th and 8th grade science teacher at Pinnacle Peak Preparatory in Paradise Valley. When I’m not sciencing, I enjoy reading books, watching Netflix, exercising and playing with my cat Luna!

Day 1

Have you ever gone around a fast curve while riding in a car? What about riding on a Pirate Ship?

Day 2

What comes up must come down and if something tips one way down it will go. How important is Balance to and Amusement Park?

Day 3

Amusement Park games can be hard to win but what if you can learn how to beat it? Then can you design and build a game?

Day 4

What is Energy? How can we use energy to make a rollercoaster more fun?

Day 5

Engineers need to understand motion and momentum when they design equipment. Now what will you create?
